This 12-month graduate placement is an excellent opportunity for individuals who have recently graduated (within the last 18 months) with a degree in a relevant discipline, such as Information Technology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Geography or a related subject.

As part of the Flood Risk Analysis team, you will support the production of accurate flood risk information that underpins Natural Resources Wales' flood risk management work. The primary focus of the placement will be the development and maintenance of hydraulic flood maps and models, helping to provide the evidence used to understand and manage flood risk across Wales.

Working alongside experienced specialists, you will gain practical experience in hydraulic modelling, geospatial analysis, data management and flood mapping techniques. You will support the delivery of hydraulic mapping and modelling programmes, including flood map production, model development and related technical analysis. You will contribute to national mapping and modelling programmes that support communities, the environment and evidence-based decision making.

In addition to your core Flood Risk Analysis responsibilities, you will gain exposure to Development and Flood Risk (DFR) work. You will provide assistance to DFR activities as required, gaining experience of how flood risk evidence informs planning and development decisions. This will provide an opportunity to understand how flood risk evidence is applied to planning and development management processes, broadening your understanding of flood risk management within NRW.

You will benefit from a comprehensive training and development programme and work closely with the Principal Advisor and other experienced specialists, who will provide mentoring, coaching and support throughout your placement. You will also have opportunities to spend time with other flood risk management teams, developing an understanding of how different specialisms contribute to managing flood risk across Wales.
